OUR FAVOURITE TRIPS: THAILAND If we had to summarize the excellent characteristics of Thailand we must say that one is a country of refined exotismo, that pronounces in its landscapes, its paradisíacas beaches, its impressive monuments, the beauty of its crafts, its gastronomy, its fabulous precious stones, their traditions, their celebrations and the smile of its people. Located in the center of Southeast Asia she was well-known during many years like Siam. Geographically it could be divided in six delimited zones affluent: the north is mountainous, fresh in winter and tempering in summer; the plateau of the northeast, bordered by the Mekong river, where the oldest civilization arose from the country; the fertile central plains; the coastal plains, where they are located most of the tourist complexes; and the mountains and valleys of the west and the south, where they par excellence are good part of the tin mines and the fishing zone. The climate is tropical, with three stations differentiated clearly: the cold station goes of November to February, the summer from March to May and the rainy season includes from June to September. The ethnic diversity is one of the characteristics of the Thailander population. The main ethnic groups are thai, Mon, to khmer, Laotians, Indians, Persian and Malayan. The predominant religion is the Buddhism that practices 90% of the population of the country. Muslim, Christian, Hindu minorities and sikhs exist. The official language is thai, although the English is used like commercial language. In tourist zones as much the traffic signals as the names of streets and labels are written in thai and English. What to do in Thailand? In addition to the many excursions of all type, to enjoy the sun and beaches, the places fashionable and the Thailander food (of intense flavor), are numerous activities and diversions for all the pleasures. To example way we can mention: traditional ballet, marionettes, Thailander boxing, etc. The purchases or shopping deserve a special chapter, since besides to be a novel market, everything surprising turns out to be cheap. The silk, traditionally worked by hand, is one of them. The antiques can be in many places. The precious stones, mainly the sapphires, rubies and topazes are another almost irresistible temptation. The masks, the parasols of paper painted by hand and articles in repujada silver are precious also.
